Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content usable by people with a wide range of disabilities, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or screen magnification.
How we test
Every page of this site is checked with the axe accessibility engine against the WCAG 2.1 level A and AA rules, at both desktop and phone sizes, and with Google Lighthouse. At our most recent review, on September 19, 2026, those automated checks found no violations. Automated tools catch many problems but not all of them, so we also test by hand with a keyboard and we act on feedback from the people who use the site.
What we have done
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link appears when you press Tab.
- Interactive elements show a clear green focus outline so you can see where you are.
- Text and background colors meet the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio the guidelines call for, including small labels and fine print.
- Images that carry meaning have text descriptions. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Pages use proper headings and landmarks so screen reader users can jump between sections.
- The photo gallery can be opened, moved through, and closed with the keyboard. It announces the current image and returns you to the page when you press Escape.
- Videos play inside the page with standard YouTube controls, and nothing plays until you choose to start it.
- The map of New York counties is backed by a plain text list of all 62 counties, so the same information is available without the map.
- Links that open another website in a new tab say so to screen readers.
- Motion and transitions are turned off for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion.
- The layout adapts to phones, tablets, and zoomed-in desktop browsers without sideways scrolling.
- Phone numbers are tap-to-call links on mobile.
Known limitations
- Captions on our YouTube videos are auto-generated, so they may contain errors. Call us if a video is unclear.
- Some product photos show packaging or size charts with printed text that is not repeated on the page. Call us and we will read or send you the details.
- Websites we link to, such as insurance plan sites, are outside our control and may not meet the same standard.
